HOW DO YOU Tree Climb?

 

  • We take you step by step to fun and safety in the trees.

All lines are set, knots tied and ready to go when you arrive

When you arrive we do a detailed safety talk

10 TOP SAFETY TIPS
1. Secure long hair
2. No jewelry
3. No cell phones
4. Wear comfortable clothing preferable hiking shoes
5. Never touch anyone elses rope
6. No drugs or alcohol
7. No smoking
8. No chewing gum
9. Always on rope- always attached and unattached by instructor
10. Honor the tree and others

We use state of the art equipment

1. Petzl Helmets
2. New tribe harnesses
3. Gloves
4. Certified arborist rope
5. Petzl carabineers



Next we provide clear instructions on climbing technique

 

ASCENDING Procedures:

1. Before leaving ground, perform a gate check by squeezing your carabineer
2. Keep hands below the climbing knot

3. When moving the climbing knot, keep both hands on the down rope.
4. Do not climb above your anchor point.
5. Take your time, move all knots in sequence, and rest when you need to.
 

DESCENDING

1. Get the attention of an instructor/facilitator and follow their directions.

 

You may want to come down upside down.
Either way...
2. Remove foot from foot loop
3. Place both hands on down rope below the climbing knot.
4. Using one hand (or feet if upside down) pull knot down gently with two fingers (or
feet) on top of the climbing knot.
5. Do not burn out. Come out of the tree in slow descent.



Is it Safe?

All trees are inspected before each climb.

All facilitators are required to have been certified.  Bill and Shelly's training was through Abe Winters of Tree Climbing USA.

The climber wears a specific helmet and always remains  attached to the rope and secure saddle.
